#Microsoft word 2011 el capitan upgrade
Have an escape plan, have a backup, don't expect software to work in on OS when you upgrade to another.

I understand you're frustrated but this is not the first time a piece of software stopped working because of an OS update.

The hang situation that occurs during an account sync operation in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 is fixed. If your issues was not mentioned in the fix how would it be resolved by software that never intended to repair the problems you're experiencing?

Read the support base from Microsoft, this patch fixed ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY. If upgrading your OS was the catalyst for this issue MS may feel Office 2011 is not the problem and will not be fixed, it's up to Apple to fix the software that broke theirs if Apple so decided. I just finished installing the latest Microsoft fix 14.30 and still have the same issues. Below is the information being reported for each application. Each time I try and start Outlook, Word, Excel or Powerpoint I get the Microsoft Error Reporting window. Since then NONE of my Office 2011 applications will start.

Open Console in Applications/Utilities.I installed El Capitan on Oct 1st. You can skip logging in with an Apple ID. Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar. Go to System Preferences -> Create a New User in Users & Groups. If you still see the beachballs, create a new User in System Preferences and test in the new User. * continue to login to see if the problem goes away.

* eventually the login screen appears with the words SAFE BOOT * now release the shift key and just wait (it could take a few minutes) * keep holding and *wait* until the grey Apple logo appears * after the sound, press and hold down the shift key * start the Mac and *wait* for the startup chime to sound

This disables your Microsoft fonts plus clears caches. If you still see the beachballs, restart in Safe Boot mode. If yes, if you use Outlook, you will need to move your Outlook Identity back. If no, you can delete the new Microsoft User Data folder and move the folder on the Desktop back. Move the Microsoft User Data folder in Documents to the Desktop. Hi BettyG07, I saw your post asking for help. However, I didn't realize there was a utility I could use to see what might be running "behind the scenes" (other than the un-Quit-able Finder). My instinct has been that the "beachball effect" in Office 2011 is entirely due to the MS/Apple failures to ensure compatibility between Office 2011/2016 and /El Capitan, because even when I've quit all other apps I still have the slow responses in Word or Excel. It took me all day yesterday to get 365 office and not all of my word documents migrated from Word 2011. Will there be a fix for this Now it wont even open. I'm about to do the reinstall and am hoping that resolves matters, but will also educate myself about activity monitor. Updated to El Capitan and Microsoft Word 2011 crashes on my MacBook Air when Im trying to use Review mode and Track Changes is toggled to ON. It hadn't occurred to me to use activity monitor as I don't have any experience with it. I appreciate your following up - good to have confirmation that El Capitan doesn't require more than !6GB RAM (picture emoticon for ironic smile, which is my expression whenever I mention or think about El Capitan - El General Headache is sadly too true, or El Crapitan as it seems to be called fairly often now online). I really need help with this as it is affecting my business.
